"Especially the infrastructure problems that are not growing and expensive prices. Which is why they prefer shopping to the outside (Malaysia), it is easier and cheaper than inside," said Edy.

Hal ini disampaikan oleh beberapa tokoh Dewan Adat Dayak Kalimantan Timur saat berkunjung ke Jakarta, Selasa 7 Februari 2012. Ketua Umum Dewan Adat Dayak Kaltim, Edy Gunawan Areq Lung, kepada VIVAnews mengatakan daerah perbatasan seperti putus komunikasi dengan pemerintah pusat.
"Terutama masalah infrastruktur yang tidak berkembang dan harga yang mahal. Itulah sebabnya mereka memilih belanja ke luar (Malaysia), lebih gampang dan murah daripada ke dalam," kata Edy.
Harga-harga bahan pokok dan bangunan melonjak tinggi di perbatasan, hal ini karena biaya pengiriman yang tidak sedikit. Misalnya gula, di perbatasan sekilonya bisa mencapai Rp60 ribu, satu sak semen di wilayah ini juga bisa mencapai harga ratusan ribu rupiah.
Wilayah di perbatasan, di antaranya Serayan dan Long Nawang, juga serba minim fasilitas. Selain itu, transportasi di wilayah ini masih terbatas. Pesawat dari kota jarang datang dan rutenya juga belum rutin.
"Di Malaysia jalan sudah bagus dan hubungannya dengan masyarakat sudah baik. Banyak warga perbatasan yang akhirnya bersekolah di Malaysia," kata Edy.
Ketua Bidang Pariwisata dan Budaya Dewan Adat Dayak, Oktavianus Daud Lendjou Tun, mengatakan pemerintah tidak cukup perhatian pada masyarakat Kalimantan. Kadang, ujarnya, warga Kalimantan cemburu pada orang utan yang lebih diperhatikan kesejahteraannya dibandingkan manusia yang tinggal di dalamnya.
"Kalau orang utan diperhatikan, disuntik imunisasi dan diberi susu. Harapan kami, pembinaan itu manusia dulu baru orang utannya. Tolonglah dipikirkan dulu masyarakat yang ada di hutan sana," kata Oktavianus.
Dia mengatakan bahwa pemerintah tidak membangun tapi justru menimbulkan pengrusakan dengan memberikan izin pada perusahaan-perusahaan dari luar. Hutan digunduli sehingga habitat hewan menjadi terganggu.
"Walau demikian, saya tidak ada niat pindah ke Malaysia, karena kami cinta tanah air. Rasa kebangsaan masih tertanam di hati orang dayak," tegas Oktavianus.
